Safety chucks are devices that are utilized in the unwind and rewind zones of converting operations. They cradle the journals of the support mechanism (usually an air shaft) for the unwind and / or rewind roll of material.
In all phases of operation, loading, operating and unloading, safety chucks must withstand a high level of wear and tear. Therefore, maintenance of safety chucks should be scheduled regularly.
Overly worn, improperly maintained safety chucks may cause operational issues in your machine and safety issues as well. Safety chucks that show excessive wear should be repaired or replaced to ensure your web is being delivered to your process and rewound in the best possible fashion.
