Cantilevered Air Shaft Choices

Narrow web converters have many options for core holding on unwind and rewind stations within converting machines. To speed up roll changes, narrow (less than 36" wide) rolls of paper, film, foil, textile or nonwoven materials MAY be unwound and rewound with cantilevered air shafts. Cantilevered air shafts are supported on one side so contrary to their dual supported counterparts, cantilevered air shafts stay in the machine while rolls of materials are loaded onto them. This type of roll loading can speed up roll changes.

Cantilevered air shafts are available with some handy features:
  • Inflation through a standard inflating tool. This option is simplest, standard and least expensive.
  • Inflation through a rotary union with a remote switch. This option speeds up roll changes by allowing inflation of the air shaft with a switch or through machine HMI. There are no inflating tools.
  • Inflation with a built-in toggle valve. This option has inflation through a rotary union. The inflating valve is built right into the air shaft, so when machine operators change rolls of material, inflating and deflating is extremely convenient.
  • Built-in lateral adjust. This option allows machine operators to fine tune the lateral position of and unwind roll. Most designs allow lateral movement while the machine is running. In addition these air shafts can be designed for inflation through a rotary union and remote valve.
