Mechanical Chucks for High Torque
Mechanical chucks and shafts are often used to support the core inside rolls of paper, film, foil, textile and nonwoven materials. Some mechanical chuck designs utilize cam action core engagement, actuated by core rotation and torque resistance generated by a brake, clutch or direct drive.
This type of mechanical chuck is torque sensitive, meaning the more torque required for an unwind or rewind application; the harder they grip. Bottom line, what this means is this type of chuck may work better for very high web tension applications where air chucks or cone devices slip due to high web tension. Making mechanical chucks a better choice for high tension unwinding and rewinding. Jeff Damour
