Avoid Compressed Air Waste | |

Most industrial plants require compressed air for some part of the manufacturing process. However, compressed air may not always be the better choice. It takes about 7-8 horsepower of electricity to generate 1 horsepower of compressed air (just google it). At that rate it's easy to see how poorly maintained or poorly designed and inefficient air compressor systems add unnecessary manufacturing costs. Inappropriate use of compressed air should also be considered. Many applications such as cleaning, drying, cooling and pneumatic material conveying are better performed by efficient, low maintenance blowers designed for those tasks. Because compressed air is readily available on the shop floor, this is usually the first choice for almost any task where air power is required. Most often, the high cost of this "free" air is not considered. Consider the total cost of a system to convey waste trimmings from a process. While the low initial low cost of a venturi which utilizes compressed air to operate may be attractive, the total costs associated with operating that venturi will be quite high when the distribution, maintenance and energy costs for compressed air are considered. The better solution is a venturi and blower combination designed for the application. Initial costs of the complete system will be higher (considering the purchase of both the venturi and blower) when compared to the purchase of just the venturi for use with existing compressed air.
