Manual Lateral Adjustment Can Help with Unwind Setup and Machine Operation
Oftentimes, it is a good idea to include some amount of lateral adjustment on an unwind stand. Manual lateral adjustment, built into the unwind, will allow the machine operator to move a roll of material side to side. This can help to properly position a new master roll after it is loaded into an unwind location. Lateral adjustment should be designed and manufactured to safely move the unwind roll side to side while the machine is running. This will allow necessary adjustments to be made without stopping the machine. This feature can be extremely helpful where telescoped or dished rolls must be unwound into a process. For narrow rolls, air shafts can be designed with built in lateral adjust than can be adjusted on the fly. Most unwind systems include automatic web guides (automatic lateral edge positioning). Even if your unwind has an automatic web guide, it may be a good idea to have some amount of manual lateral positioning, essentially feeding the web roughly where it's supposed to be positioned. This will ensure that your web guide will operate within its range of motion.
